Four-star Garrett makes the call

After initially planning to set up multiple official visits, four-star guard Marcus Garrett has decided to end his recruitment.

Monday evening, the product of Dallas (Texas) Skyline committed to Bill Self and Kansas.

"Marcus is going to the University of Kansas," said his uncle and summer coach Matthew Watts. "He's been thinking about it since last week when we got back from Vegas. All of the schools that have been recruiting him are good schools but Kansas is a blue blood.

"He looked at tradition. He looked at the environment and he looked at a place he could go an improve without any distractions. He will have talent around him and coach Self will push him to do big things and be the best player that he can be."

With 6-foot-5 size, a high basketball IQ and plenty of athleticism, Garrett is a new age style utility guard who can run an offense and provides the versatility to play multiple positions. Because of his size, he can play all over the floor and maximize the number of ball handlers and playmakers that Kansas can put on the floor.

"He wants to do everything," said Watts. "He wants to fill the stat sheet and do a lot more than just score."

As good as he is on the offensive end of the floor, Garrett may be an even better defender and as one of the top defensive players in the class of 2017 he projects as a player capable of defending multiple positions on the college level.

"Coach Self told us that he is going to use him in the three guard rotation. He always has three guards on the floor and Marcus fits. The best thing about about Marcus is the way he defends and he can guard the one the two and three.

"He will have an opportunity to come in and compete for a starting job as a freshman."

Ranked No. 44 overall in the class of 2017, Garrett is Kansas' first commitment in the class and will make his official visit to Kansas on the weekend of September 30th.
