CERRITOS, Calif. – Devon Dotson, one of the top guards in the 2018 class, is prepared to take the next step with his recruitment.

Dotson is a point guard that has no issues finding his own offense. He is a sturdy defender that can run a half-court offense, which has enabled for a national recruitment.

“A lot of people are doing a good job,” he said. “Kansas, Arizona, Maryland, Florida, USC, NC State and Wake Forest.”

Dotson broke down several of the schools in the mix.

Kansas: “They just need a point guard to come in and run the show from day one. They feel like I fit great within their system and I could be their point guard that can lead them.

“They talked to me about it (recent commitment of Charlie Moore). Coach (Bill) Self called me and told me the situation and said that he is not worried about it interfering with me but that he expects for me to come in and run the show from day one.”

Arizona: “They are saying that they need a dynamic point guard like myself to come and lead.”

Florida: “They have been recruiting me really hard since freshman year so they have done a really good job keeping in contact with my family. We have a great relationship.”

NC State: “In-state school with a new coaching staff that is trying to turn things around.”

Wake Forest: “Coach (Danny) Manning has been recruiting me for a long time. He has spoken a lot with my family.”

WHAT'S NEXT?

Team Charlotte will have the talents of Dotson the rest of the way this summer as he will finish his travel career out on the Under Armour circuit this July.

When it comes to selecting a school, expect for a more narrowed list of seven or eight to be published within the coming weeks before a final commitment occurs in the fall.

Dotson, who will visit Maryland on Monday, has an idea of what he is looking for in a school.

“I just want a relationship with the coaching staff, how I fit into their style of play, and player development.”

RIVALS' REACTION

Dotson is one of the more college ready point guard prospects in high school basketball, making the Team Charlotte star that much more valuable. Arizona and USC have remained in the mix while Kansas and Florida may be the top potential landing spots for him. However, it will be tough to discount local schools Wake Forest and NC State; one school to keep tabs on is Maryland as the Terps recently landed the commitment of travel teammate and good friend Aaron Wiggins.
