Four-star Brooks discusses Pac-12, Oklahoma, Virginia

CERRITOS, Calif. – A promising and skilled power forward, four-star J’Raan Brooks has remained steady throughout the recruiting process as a number of high-major schools have become involved. Heading into his senior summer of travel basketball, a select few have begun to stand out for the Garfield High School product.

One of the top passing big men in the 2018 class, Brooks would be a tremendous addition to any program. He's capable of scoring from inside and out while bringing solid defensive versatility to the floor.

He listed USC, Stanford, Virginia, Cal, Washington and Oklahoma as schools in the mix.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Washington: “I have been talking to them a little bit. I have been talking to their assistant Will Conroy, so they want me to come and take a visit soon. I like them all a lot. They are real cool.”

USC: “My brother lives right next to USC. It is nice especially it being Southern California, which doesn’t hurt. I like how they get up and down the floor and use their big guys who are pretty versatile. I think I can fit in there.”

Stanford: “One of my close friends, Daejon Davis, is committed there from Garfield, which is a good connection to have. I like him as my point guard. He wants me to go there but I am just keeping my recruitment open.”

Oklahoma: “I like it because of coach (Carlin) Hartman and also because of their playing style with how they get up and down the floor like UW and USC. They would use me as a versatile 3-4 and playing multiple positions.”

Virginia: “They want to use me in different ways and they are a great defensive school so I would better my defense if I go there.”

California: “Coach Wyking (Jones) is like my dude so I really like their playing style. They would probably use me like Ivan Rabb with rebounding and pushing the ball.”

WHAT'S NEXT?

Brooks will finish out his senior summer on the adidas circuit playing with the Dream Vision 17-under unit. He'll head to the NBPA Top 100 Camp, which is held at the University of Virginia, next week. Brooks will take an unofficial visit to the ACC program following the completion of it on June 17. He will visit USC on Sept. 2.

RIVALS' REACTION

Washington has done phenomenal work at landing the best local prospects, and Stanford can sell the academic side.

However, it bodes well for USC that it was able to land his first official visit. Brooks was born in the area, and the Trojans can offer an opportunity to play right away thanks to the pending departures of Bennie Boatwright and Chimezie Metu to the NBA.

A September commitment is expected from Brooks.
