Four-star Beverly talks Mizzou, Baylor, Michigan State

MORE: Critical weekend visits | Class of 2019 Rivals150

WAUKEGAN, Ill. – A breakout performer from the July evaluation periods, Harlond Beverly has more than announced himself as a priority prospect for a number of power conference programs. Beverly has seen two programs stand out and he is taking an unofficial visit to Missouri today.

Beverly made a major push for national legitimacy during his time at the NY2LA Summer Jam in July, as he led his REACH Legends 16-under group to the championship contest. Proving his worth again at the NY2LA Futures Camp, the Rivals150 prospect updated Rivals on his recruitment.

“I just have to keep working and I am just glad that I have the opportunity to go to college for free so far. It is just a great feeling,” he said. “Michigan State and Baylor are the two recruiting me the hardest right now.”

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Michigan State: “Getting that offer felt really good. I built a relationship with them prior to the offer. We talked a lot. They ended up giving it to me in late August. It was really good for me. They are just telling me that they run a pro-style system, everyone touches the ball and that they play fast. They want to get out into the open court and would use me as a bigger, more versatile guard.

“I went up there three times so far this year, the one time when I got the offer and two others times for football games. I was up there last week. It is beautiful up there. They are doing a lot of renovations. I love it.”

Baylor: “It is all about family and lineage there. I had some family go there and they did really well. My uncle Ekpe Udoh went there. He just tells me how they are great people. He is not really steering me to one or the other but he just wants for me to make the best decision for myself.

“I visited there this summer. It is beautiful. Like the brick on the buildings; I have never seen anything like it.”

Missouri: “They are turning it around. They are just telling me that they like me and want me to get down there. Coach (Cornell) Mann has been recruiting me since he was at Oakland last year, which is where that relationship came from.”

WHAT’S NEXT?

No other visits are scheduled outside of his trip to Missouri. The Tigers have yet to offer, though a few hours on the SEC program’s campus could change that.

Beverly will enter the fall with a national ranking next to his name for the first time as he will play out his junior season for the Southfield Christian School bunch.

RIVALS’ REACTION

Beverly has all of the tangibles that will make him an even more prioritized prospect. A 6-foot-4 guard that can score in a hurry, he is more than good enough as a facilitating agent in the half-court setting. The offer from Michigan State was just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to a high-level college recruitment.

Michigan State looks to be the favorite. He will continue to grab quality offers in the coming months and while Baylor has ties that no other school does, the Spartans, if they pursue further, may be too difficult to beat.
