Four programs standing out to four-star PG Josiah James

Josiah James, a four-star point guard out of South Carolina, is one of the more intriguing 2019 prospects in the Southeast. At 6-foot-6, he has a great feel for the game and is equally comfortable setting up others and creating his own offense.

Playing for TMP during travel season, he doesn’t always get the same amount of exposure as prospects who play on shoe company teams, but that hasn’t stopped high-major programs from getting involved with James. He listed offers from Cincinnati, Virginia, Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Florida and South Carolina with interest coming in from Louisville and NC State.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

James talked about his interest in some of the schools recruiting him.

South Carolina: “They are some dogs. They love playing defense and it’s only like an hour and fifteen minutes from my house. I go to practices a lot. I love what Frank Martin is doing over there.”

Georgia: “I don’t know much about them, but I’ve seen them play in the past. I know they have produced some pretty good players in the past, but that’s all I know.”

Tennessee: “I know a lot about them. That’s probably the school that has the most interest in me. They’ve been with me since day one, basically like two years ago. I wouldn’t say they are in a rebuilding stage, but they aren’t where they want to be. They want me to come in and be a point guard.”

Louisville: “I love them. That’d be a great school. I’d love to play for coach (Rick) Pitino. It’d be an honor to do so. I know they produced guys like Donovan Mitchell, Peyton Siva and some other really good guards as well.”

RIVALS' REACTION

After watching him in Orlando at the Super Showcase, there is little doubt James will be one of the more highly-recruited point guards in the 2019 class. It only takes a few seconds to figure out how naturally gifted he is, but he also possesses the intangibles coaches like in their point guard.

South Carolina will be a major factor in his recruitment as Frank Martin made a special trip just to see him and Aaron Nesmith in Orlando. An offer from Louisville could shake up his recruitment. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see other national powers get involved here as well.
