Forte Talks About Decision

Jason Forte's recruitment followed a long and winding road since the fall, but when all was said and done, he wound up just down the highway.
Forte, a 6-4, 208 pound shooting/combo guard from Bay Springs H.S. in Bay Springs, Miss., signed last week with Southern Mississippi.

Back in October, Forte had visited and orally committed to Boston College, but there were several factors that kept him close to home in the end.
"I've been praying about it a lot, and the Lord came to me and told me to stay closer to home," Forte said.
Forte said he never spoke with the B.C. staff after signing with Southern Miss, but his high school coach spoke with some members of the Big East program's brian trust.
"I was disappointed in myself, but I did what I felt," Forte said. "So I am not really grieving, I am happy with my decision."
Forte enjoyed a tremendous senior campaign at Bay Springs, averaging 28 points, 9.6 rebounds and six assists a game on the way to Mississippi 2A state player of the year honors.
Since he never signed with Boston College in the fall, Forte was free to look around this spring. He visited both Southern Miss (which is located just an hour or so from his house) and Mississippi State this spring, and had attracted recent interest from Florida State, UAB and Arkansas.
"I trust the coaching staff at Southern Miss a whole lot," Forte said. "I know if I go down there and work, I will have a chance to be Conference USA player of the year and to start right away."
