Trent Forrest capped off a monster junior season last week by helping
Chipley (Fla.) High School win the 1A state championship in Florida. Forrest, a
6-foot-4 combo guard, averaged 29 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists along the
way.
Forrest first began to emerge as a high-major prospect last year playing with
the Alabama Challenge in the Nike EYBL. At the moment, he holds offers from
Florida State, Miami, Texas Tech, Texas A&M,
Providence, UCF, Wichita State and
Tennessee. Alabama, Florida, Georgia,
LSU, USF and Stanford have also been in
contact.
The most recent school to reach out to the four-star prospect was South Florida.
"Coach Orlando (Antigua) actually sent me a text after the game last week,"
Forrest said. "That was the first time I had really heard from them. He just
saying he wants to talk me and my parents soon and he looks forward to seeing me
play again. I think he's done a good job there so far. He has to re-build
because they lost some players, but I think once he gets his player in there
they will do pretty well."
Forrest took trips to both Florida and Florida State during football season last
year. At Florida, he likes the way Billy Donovan uses his guards.
"They got a good program. Coach Donovan is a really good coach. They have had a
lot of good guards over the years. I like to run a lot of pick and roll and they
do a lot of that in their offense."
Florida State's coaching staff has put in a lot of work with Forrest, and it
appears to be paying off.
"I have a really good relationship with their coaches. They have been recruiting
me for a while now. They have lost a lot of close games. They are playing some
really good teams down to the wire, but they just haven't been able to close
them out. They are having a pretty good season to me."
Miami is trying to convince the Rivals150 prospect to leave the panhandle and
head down to the southern tip of Florida.
"They have been a lot like Florida State this year. They have some quality wins
too. They like to use a lot of guards and let them play."
Forrest plans to let his recruitment play out through the summer before coming
to a decision.
"I'm just waiting to see how my last AAU season goes and go from there. I'm
looking for a good education, a good relationship with the coaching staff, and a
playing style that I like."
