Former New Orleans big man gathering attention

Former New Orleans resident Scott Saunders has found a new home at Battle Ground Academy in Franklin, Tenn., after being displaced by Hurricane Katrina. College coaches are now figuring out the whereabouts of the 6-foot-8, 215-pound power forward.
"Lipscomb watched him play recently and said they definitely had an offer for him," said Battle Ground Academy head coach Gary Smith. "Tennessee came down last week and spent the day here watching him practice. I also know he has heard from Mississippi State and Belmont.

"There is no doubt that he is a division one player. The question is just at what level. A lot of schools are just now figuring out where he is."
Averaging 18 points per game, Saunders had his best game in his last outing where he posted a triple-double with 27 points.
"He's an attractive prospect because with his size he is very comfortable on the perimeter facing the basket," said Smith. "He came from Jesuit High where they had 1,500 boys, and he is used to playing with players bigger than he is.
"He can handle and drive and hit the three. He also has the frame to put on 20 pounds or more."
An outstanding student, Saunders has strong academic/basketball bloodlines. His father was a post player for Duke during his playing days.
