Jared Jones made an early decision last September to commit to Auburn after taking multiple visits to see the school. Back in June, he decided to open up his recruitment again and take a longer look at some other schools before locking in with one school.

The decision appears to have paid off. Since opening up, Jones says he’s heard from Wake Forest, NC State, Ohio State, Georgia Tech, Georgia, Alabama, Clemson and others. The 6-foot-9, 230-pound power forward in the 2019 class visited Clemson and NC State this summer, and plans to visit Ohio State this weekend for the football game against Penn State.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Jones explained why he opened up from Auburn, why he picked the Tigers in the first place, and his interest in some other schools recruiting him now.

On decommitting from Auburn: “I just wasn’t sure. More than anything else, I just wanted to experience the recruiting process. I’m still considering them. It felt like home and I liked the team chemistry and coaching staff.”

Clemson: “It was nice. It was like the Auburn of the SEC. Their facilities are great. Their coaches are very straightforward.”

NC State: “I liked them too. Same as Clemson, their coaches are very straightforward. I love Coach [Kevin] Keatts.”

Ohio State: “They said I’m a top priority for them and they are excited to get me up there for the football game this weekend. I like the new coaching staff.”

RIVALS' REACTION

After seeing Jones in an open gym at McEachern, where he recently transferred to from Pebblebrook, he looks like he’s also made big improvements to his game. Physically, he’s put on some muscle and looks like a better athlete. He’s also expanded his game to where he’s comfortable playing on the perimeter. His junior year and next travel season will be important for him to prove he deserves high-major offers, but he certainly appears ready for a big year.
