Fofana Chooses The ACC

The battle is over. Hassan Fofana, a 6-9, 260-pound center from Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia, committed to Maryland at 7 AM ET. "It's wonderful for Hassan," said one of his AAU coaches Gary Gibbons. "We had a family meeting this morning and he thought it was the best thing to do."
Fofana is one of the few remaining big men who can actualy make a significant impact down the road on the college level. And Fofana had already indicated he might want to end his process earlier than expected. Certainly, this was earlier than expected!

Hargrave Military Academy head coach Mike Preston only told us two days ago that Fofana had cut the list down to six schools -- Connnecticut, Virginia, Maryland, Purdue, Memphis, and St. John's. Fofana worked out Friday at Hargrave Military Academy and a source told us that the only schools watching were St. John's and Connecticut.
Ohio State dropped out while other schools like Wisconsin, Cornell, Stanford, Boston College, Texas Tech, and Michigan did not make the final cut, according to Preston.
Fofana, who hails from West Africa, played this summer for the the Middlesex Magic. Fofana is an active and aggressive 260 pounder. He has great upside to his game and runs the floor hard all the time. He has a chance to be a great college basketball player because of his willingness to learn the game both on the AAU level and the high school level.
