Florida got its man on Monday as five-star point guard Andrew Nembhard committed to Mike White and his Gators program.
The 6-foot-4, 185-pound standout chose Florida over Gonzaga, USC and Ohio State. Nembhard is the prized recruit that White has been looking for this cycle and is a tremendous immediate impact pick-up.
“I probably have the best relationship with the (Florida) coaching staff compared to the others," Nembhard told Rivals.com. "They have been recruiting me the longest and they have a good style of play for me.”
Nembhard should have an excellent opportunity to make an splash early at Florida thanks to the departure of point guard Chris Chiozza.
“They told me that I could come in, contribute and be a big part of the team, help make others around me better, score and pass, and just let me do what I do,” Nembhard said. “It is kind of a fast-paced system that has their guys get up into their guys on the defensive end and use a lot of ball screens on the offensive end, which is the type of system that I could excel in.”
Florida would like nothing more than to pair Nembhard with another versatile guard recruit this fall. The Gators remain heavily involved for Elijah Weaver, Devon Dotson, Noah Locke, David Duke and Will Richardson. UF has also placed a priority on complimentary wing pieces such as Keyontae Johnson and Khavon Moore. The program is also in the final seven for five-star power forward Emmitt Williams and have kept a close eye on Nembhard’s high school teammate, Rivals150 forward Filip Petrusev.
One of the very best passers in high school basketball, Nembhard will brings excellent size, playmaking skills and upside to Gainesville.
