Florida Junior Looks Ahead to Summer

Hindsight is always 20/20, right? Florida big man Ryan Reid thinks so. The 6-foot-8 junior from Boyd Anderson HS in Ft. Lauderdale saw his season come to an end last week and now he is thinking about what he could have done a little better. Despite his self-analysis, four big time programs came to see him play this past season.
Reid averaged 18 points, 12.5 rebounds, four blocks and three steals and helped lead Boy Anderson to a 22-6 record before losing in the regional tournament, thus ending the season.

“Right now I’m just thinking I was I would have done this, I wish I would have done that,” Reid said. “I know I could have done more even though my coach keeps telling me that I averaged more (points and rebounds) than everyone.”
His coach has also been fielding several calls about the promising junior inquiring about his future. And rightfully so. Reid is a forward with developing wing skills and handles the ball fairly well for a player his size. His bread and butter is still inside the paint but refining his perimeter game could open up more doors down the road.
Some of those doors are already big programs. Florida, Kansas, Miami and UConn are all interested, according to Reid.
“They’ve all been to my games this year,” he said. “They either write or call my coach. They are staying in contact.”
Reid also said he’s just taking the recruiting process in stride.
“I’m not really in a big hurry (to make any decisions). I’m just a junior. I haven’t even looked around to see what is out there. I’m just looking forward to playing my senior year and then I’ll make more important decisions.”
With the season now over, Reid has focused his thoughts to the spring and summer. He will suit up for the Tallahassee Wildcats on the AAU circuit. Perhaps the evaluation period will be a time to put his thoughts about the recent season to action.
“I just want to come out and work even more,” Reid said. “I can’t wait until this summer. Everyone says this guy is No. 1 and this guy is the best. I want to be able to try and prove myself against everybody. We are all equal in the summer time."
