Tragedy struck the high school basketball world early Saturday morning when Florida guard Dante Anderson died in a car accident in Gainesville.

Anderson, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Eastside High School, was the driver in the single car accident that claimed his life and the life of another teenager, Curtis Hampton. Two other passengers are in critical condition.
Home going services for Anderson will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 26 at Eastside High School. Anderson will be buried in his jersey, according to his travel team coach Ryan Delafield.
"Both of these young men were taken way too soon but the lord has a plan for all," Delafield said. "I am sure that they are playing in a pickup game in heaven."
Anderson was one of the most charismatic players in the country and commanded the attention of any room or court he was on. Recently invited to play with a team of all-stars put together by Reebok, Anderson shined amongst a nationwide roster.
"Dante was never satisfied and was looking forward to the challenges he would face in the coming months whether it was on the summer circuit or in the international tournament with Team Reebok in Italy in June," Delafield said.
Anderson was a hot target for a number of high-major programs, including Missouri, Illinois, Dayton, Wake Forest, Georgia and the Florida schools. Delafield said Anderson was "on a mission" this spring and summer.
"This is a huge lost to our organization not because he played basketball but because of the person he was on and off the court," Delafield said. "Dante had that 'it' brought with him each and every time whether he was at practice, games or on a road trips. This young man was putting in the time and effort to place himself in the elite class of the 2008 hoopsters in the country."
