Florence still looking for good situation

James Florence knows when to cash in on a good opportunity. At an open gym at his Wheeler High School, the Marietta, Ga., native took his game to another level in hopes of impressing the coaches that stopped by to have a look. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound point guard now hopes those coaches pick up the phone and make a call or two.
Winning a state championship as a junior, Florence entered the AAU circuit with high hopes of landing a high-major offer. However, that didn't happen. Now the physical point guard is hoping to change that.

Florence played well enough to raise the eyebrows of the dozen or so schools that were in attendance. Alabama, Auburn, Georgia State, Georgetown, South Carolina, South Carolina State, UAB, UMass, Rice, South Florida and Bethune-Cookman were all in the house to see guys like J.J. Hickson and J.T. Tiller. Florence hopes the phones starts to ring a little bit more.
"Let's hope I can get a few," Florence said. "I'd like to make my pick before the season gets started. If that doesn't work out and if I don't like my options, I'll wait it out until the spring."
Mercer and Wofford both came out to see Florence last week. "Tulane and Colorado, they are still calling but they haven't said anything about visiting," Florence said.
All four schools have offered, he said. He said he remains open in the process.
