Five-star Troy Brown picks Oregon

Oregon coach Dana Altman isn't known for showing a lot of emotion, but odds are he let a little something show Monday when five-star guard Troy Brown announced via a Bleacher Report video that he's headed to Eugene.

The 6-foot-6 guard from Las Vegas who ranks No. 12 overall in the class of 2017, told Rivals.com that the coaching staff -- particularly assistant coach Tony Stubblefield -- and playing style won him over.

“At the end of the day the thing that made them stand out over the other schools was the coaching staff," Brown told Rivals.com. "I had a lot of options but at the end of the day I was comfortable with the coaching staff and I was confident in them and how they would let me play and I really felt a lot of trust in Coach Altman.

“Also what stood out was their style of play. They get up and down and all of the players they have are versatile and play multiple positions. Also defensively they like to press a lot and that creates turnovers and opportunities.”

Brown -- who starred on the Las Vegas Prospects in Nike's EYBL -- also talked about how important his official visit was. He was impressed with the way the Oregon staff handled his questions about what his daily life and school would be like and he felt a high level of comfort with everybody that he came into contact with.

“The environment was great," said Brown. "The key thing was that I was really comfortable and I could see myself there. The way they take care of their players felt like it would be good for me. Then the players, just talking to them, I felt like they were really honest and hearing their experiences really helped a lot.”

With the addition of Brown, the Ducks now have an impressive recruiting class. Brown joins a group that already includes four-star shooting guard Victor Bailey and four-star forward Abu Kigab.

“I’m more excited than anything," said Brown. "At the end of the day, when you realize where you want to go you are excited about being on the court next year and proud to be getting ready to represent the school that you picked.”
