Five-star Brown discusses visits to Alabama, Ohio St., what's next

The No. 12 ranked player in the class of 2017, five-star guard Troy Brown from Las Vegas, is approximately halfway through the visit process as he looks to close in on a college decision.

The 6-foot-6 do-it-all guard recently completed official visits to Ohio State and Alabama over the past few weeks. On Monday, he hosted Kansas for an in-home visit.

Brown broke down his visits with Rivals.com.

First up for Brown was a trip to Columbus to check out Thad Matta and the Buckeyes.

“They did a really good job. Especially with it being my first visit," said Brown. "It was really good to go there and see the environment and get a feel for a school that I’ve been talking to for so long but hadn't been to.”

Capable of playing all around the perimeter, Brown is a versatile guard who is very similar to former Buckeye Evan Turner -- something that they've pointed out -- but the chance to play point guard is important to him. The Buckeyes utilization of tall point guards in the past is one of their biggest selling points.

“That’s one of the top reason that they are in consideration really, that background that Thad Matta has with tall point guards and developing them. It’s a huge factor.”

Last weekend, Brown made it down to Alabama -- where he was joined by another five-star prospect, combo guard Collin Sexton -- for his second official visit. A former NBA point guard, Crimson Tide head coach Avery Johnson incorporated his NBA experience into his pitch.

“He talks about that a lot," said Brown. "He wants to build an NBA environment around the school and incorporate the things he learned and the experiences he had in the NBA and bring them into the school in general."

Brown played on USA Basketball's World Championship 17U squad with Sexton and said that being with him on the visit brought some familiarity. The duo will visit Kansas at the same time at the end of the month and Brown is open to playing with 2017's No. 7 ranked player.

“Collin was out there too so it gave a little perspective of what it would be like (to attend same school)," said Brown. “I would love to play with him. I really feel confident playing with him. We can both switch off and I know his game and he knows my game too."

On Monday, Brown -- who conducted in home visits with Arizona and Georgetown during the spring -- hosted Kansas for an in home visit. His older sister Jada Brown is a senior on the Jayhawks women's team and because of that, he's been to Lawrence before and established a nice rapport with Bill Self and his assistants.

“It was a very comfortable visit," said Brown. "Especially already having that connection with Coach Self and talking to him before. Coach (Kurtis) Townsend has been talking to me for a while and we had a good conversation. It was lots of laughing."

Next, Brown will host Oregon and California for Tuesday in home visits. He'll officially visit Oregon (Sept. 23rd), Kansas (Sept. 30th) and Georgetown (Oct. 5th) and then try to hone in on a decision. Though he won't visit his other three finalists (Arizona, Cal and UNLV) officially, he's seen them all unofficially and they remain under consideration.

“I feel like I have a really good game plan," said Brown. "Mostly I’m trying to see that I enjoy it and have a good feel for the school.

"For me I feel like I am going to finish all of my visits. I am going to finish and hopefully decide for the November signing period."
