ORANGE, Calif. -- He's not running from it. Five-star guard Quentin Grimes got off to a poor start this spring. Now, he's back to proving he belongs as one of the nation's best in the class of 2018 and will soon cut his school list.

During the first April live period, Grimes and his Basketball University team were matched up against five-star point guard Immanuel Quickley and his BBC team. Quickley and his BBC team got the big win and Grimes had a night he'd rather forget. Instead of making excuses, he's used the game as motivation after battling through some illness that kept him off the floor for a stretch.

"I feel way better than I did a few weeks ago," Grimes told Rivals.com. "I've been getting back into the gym and the weight room. I feel a lot better right now.

"You have to be able to overcome bad games like that and build mental toughness."

The last time Grimes took a campus visit was in October when he went to Kentucky. He's hoping to start planning some unofficial visits soon. Along with Kentucky, others like Arizona, Baylor, Kansas, Texas, Texas A&M, Marquette, Oklahoma, Florida, Georgia Tech and Virginia have offered and Grimes says that he will soon cut his list to eight.

Though his cut should come in the next few weeks, Grimes didn't yet want to discuss specific programs.

"I don't know who it is going to be for sure just yet," said Grimes of his cut. "I'm just trying to pinpoint little things with the schools that are on the cusp right now so we can make sure that we get the best schools for me in that final eight.

"After I cut it to eight, I'll restart the process. I'll start doing more research on the schools and then hopefully look to take some unofficial visits when I have some dead time."

As for a decision, don't look for Grimes to sign early. Last year, five-star point guard Trae Young elected to decide between signing periods and Grimes could be looking to do the same.

"Maybe I'll cut it down to three or four schools before the start of my senior year and then look to take official visits," said Grimes. "I'm not sure when I'll decide yet, maybe in the winter between signing periods because I don't want to rush it."
