Five-star shooting guard Antonio Blakeney had been saying that he was undecided. But on the inside, he was pretty sure of what he wanted to do. After a weekend trip to Louisville, he was even more sure that the Cardinals were the right fit for him.
The No. 13 player in the country, Blakeney committed to Rick Pitino and the Cardinals on Thursday night.
"I had been thinking that I wanted to do this for about two months and the visit proved it," Blakeney told Rivals.com. "I think now was the right time because it wasn't right for me to keep other schools waiting for me.
It costs a lot of money to bring people in for visits and it takes a lot of time and I didn't want to do that. I like the situation I'll be in and how hands on coach Pitino was with me. I just know Coach Pitino is going to push me to my full potential and get me to where I want to go."
A 6-foot-3 shooting guard from Orlando (Fla.) Oak Ridge, Blakeney is one of the most explosive scorers in high school basketball. He isn't the strongest guard, but he is fast, can create off the dribble, finishes above the rim and has as good a mid range game as anybody in the class of 2015.
His shooting from beyond the three-point line can be a little bit streaky, but Blakeney tends to make them in bunches and becomes almost impossible to guard if he his hitting from deep. But, he is also capable of doing the little things and is well liked by teammates.
"I'm going to be a competitor in practice," said Blakeney. "I think I'm somebody who can come in and help lead the team and do whatever they need me to do."
A five-star prospect, Blakeney joins what was already a loaded class. Four-stars Donovan Mitchell, Raymond Spalding and Deng Adel will join him next season and he's looking forward to playing with them.
"I know all of those guys and I feel like we have the best class in the country," said Blakeney. "Donovan Mitchell is a tough guard and we can play together. I know Raymond Spalding is good and I've see what Deng Adel can do. We are all great players and bring different stuff to the table. We are going to work had and try to win a national championship. That's the goal."
