Fans of the University of Kansas can get off the recruiting ledge. The Jayhawks are now on the board in the class of 2015 with five-star power forward Carlton Bragg's Thursday afternoon selection.
Involved with all kinds of big-time prospects who are waiting to decide late, the Jayhawks got good news on Thursday when the nation's No. 14 player in the class of 2015 announced during a press conference at Cleveland (Ohio) Villa Angela St. Joseph that he would be playing his college ball in Lawrence.
Standing 6-foot-9 and checking in at around 225 pounds, Bragg has all the physical characteristics to be highly successful at Kansas. He is a very good athlete, he can run the floor and he has a body that can carry more muscle without costing him in the flexibility or athleticism department.
More important than those physical traits, though, is the skill and versatility that Bragg brings to the table. He is a bouncy scorer in the paint who can operate on either block, he passes pretty well out of double teams and he is capable of stepping out and making shots all the way to the three-point line.
A big-time prospect, Bragg does suffer from stretches of inconsistency when he floats to the perimeter before establishing himself on the interior. He also needs to clean up his low-post footwork a little, but the tools to be very successful in Bill Self's offense are all there.
Now that Bragg is in the fold, the Kansas staff can use him to help in recruiting other prospects. Targets will now know at least one player that is joining them and that could be crucial to the Jayhawks' completion of a 2015 class where they are still involved with seven five-star prospects including Jaylen Brown, Malik Newman, Cheick Diallo, Ivan Rabb, Stephen Zimmerman, Brandon Ingram and Tyler Dorsey.
