Five-star junior taking visits

THE RIVALS150: 2016 | 2017

In the relatively near future, five-star guard Troy Brown would like to narrow his list of schools down a bit. However, the junior isn't feeling any rush or stress with the recruiting process and is in no hurry to make a final decision.
Standing 6-foot-6 and ranking No. 8 overall in the class of 2017, the product of Las Vegas (Nev.) Centennial has no shortage of options. Programs across the country like Arizona, California, Duke, Kansas, Louisville, Ohio State, Oregon, Stanford, Utah, UCLA and many more have already offered scholarships.
This weekend, Brown took in Cal and Stanford unofficially and he'll see Arizona and Utah in October before looking to set up some more trips. The hope is to be able to solidify things.
"Me and my dad and coaches have been talking about the list," Brown told Rivals.com. "We've decided that somewhere between now an the beginning of next year I'll cut my list down to 10."
Capable of playing the point guard, shooting guard or small forward positions, Brown is one of the most versatile players in the country. He defends all positions well, handles the ball and is a great rebounder from the perimeter. He knows that he needs to get stronger and he's looking to add some explosiveness to his game.
"As of now I'm working on my explosiveness and getting faster," said Brown. "Being able to go quicker off the dribble and being more explosive with my jumping and rebounding."
Though he can play multiple positions and says that he's open to moving all around in college, it is pretty clear that Brown sees his future as a point.
"Preferably I would like to be a point guard," said Brown. "But it doesn't really matter what position I play in the backcourt because I feel that I'm versatile. So while it doesn't matter, preferably I'd rather be a point guard."
Though he fills the stat sheet in many areas, one critique of Brown's game has been that he could be more diverse as a scorer. He would certainly like to become more consistent with his jump shot but he doesn't feel any pressure to score.
"Not at all," said Brown when asked if he's looking to focus more on his scoring. "I feel like I can impact the game in many ways. I can score sometimes, I can rebound and I can pass. I actually think I stress about scoring too much and sometimes it has a bad impact on my game."
With some visits scheduled, a plan to cut things down and areas to work on identified, the logical question is when would Brown like to decide? For now, there's no rush.
"I will probably wait until spring of my senior year," said Brown. "That's just from right now and talking to coaches and stuff. I feel like it's going to be a hard decision and I want to see where other players are going and make sure I'm picking the right fit.
"I'm still enjoying it. I'm like a kid in the candy store and this is a really fun experience for me."
