DAYTON – Five-star junior Alonzo Gaffney did not play his best at the Flyin’ to the Hoops Basketball Invitational, but his upside and raw talent are evident. A 6-foot-8 prospect that can play either forward position, Gaffney continues to lead a priority recruitment as three schools have emerged as favorites.
Ohio State, Michigan State and Georgetown are in communication the most among a host of schools that have offered, Gaffney said.
The headliner for head coach Sonny Johnson’s Garfield Heights team this winter, Gaffney sports all of the physical tangibles that college coaches have come to drool over. He has great length, giant hands and a super clean shooting stroke.
IN HIS OWN WORDS
Georgetown: “My dad is really close with coach Lou Orr down there. It is a great family atmosphere, great coaching staff and great players”
Michigan State: “I had a great visit there. I got to know the players down there. I went to a football game while I was there.”
Ohio State: “Great program, great coaching staff and they are doing really good this year. I am really close with the coaching staff down there.”
WHAT'S NEXT
Gaffney said he may visit Ohio State and Michigan State after he finishes his junior season.
RIVALS REACTION
A super talented small forward prospect that has grown another inch since the summer, Gaffney’s basketball ceiling remains one of the best in the 2019 class.
Gaffney’s commitment is not expected any time soon as his recruitment should only better as he kicks off his final summer on the travel circuit in the coming months. Georgetown, Ohio State and Michigan State look to be in the best position, but there is still some time to go before a decision or a condensed list is produced.
