Five-star forward switches classes

Jamie Dixon and his staff at Pitt have been justifiably giddy over the prospect of getting Khem Birch on campus. As it turns out, Dixon and the Panthers are going to get the five-star forward a year early.
Saturday night at the National Prep Showcase, the 6-foot-8 power forward at Fitchburg (Mass.) Notre Dame confirmed that he will be re-classifying to the class of 2011.

"Yes, I'm going to be in the class of 2011 now," Birch told Rivals.com. "I just think that it's going to be best for me."
An elite level run and jump athlete, shot blocker and rebounder, Birch is in the process of expanding his offensive game. By making the move to 2011, he's hoping to get more instruction.
"I could have stayed and done my post grad year next year," said Birch. "I just think that I'll be able to learn a lot more and improve as a player in college next year."
By making the switch, Birch joins a class that already includes three-star prospects John Johnson, Durand Johnson, Malcolm Gilbert and Jaylen Bond.
