Five-star center Naz Reid commits to LSU

Nazreon Reid, a five-star recruit and top-15 prospect within the 2018 class, made it official on Tuesday by committing to LSU. Reid chose the Tigers over Arizona, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, and UCLA.

Having visited the Baton Rouge campus prior to the July evaluation periods, Reid’s committed to the SEC program is just the latest in the recent trend of top-50 pick-ups for Will Wade and his staff.

This spring, LSU nabbed the commitment of top-50 guard Tremont Waters, a former Georgetown commit that will enroll this fall and likely be the starting point guard for the Tigers in November. In June, Wade and his staff kicked off their 2018 class with its first five-star commitment to date, that coming from the top state of Louisiana recruit, Javonte Smart. Reid’s commitment is the biggest yet.

Beating out several bluebloods for his commitment, it did not hurt that the LSU women’s program enrolled their own New Jersey five-star recruit this summer, that being Raven Farley. Being close to Farley, the chance to get starter's minutes and compete int he SEC won out at the end of the day.

A 6-foot-10 center with a 7-foot-3 wingspan, Reid has developed into the new age center, one that can extend the defense with the three-point jumper and is one of the better passing bigs within high school ball. On the Under Armour circuit this summer, Reid averaged over 14 points and nine rebounds, while making close to 35 percent of his perimeter tries.

Next spring, LSU will lose four of its frontcourt weapons. Nabbing Reid before October should create even more buzz and momentum in filling the rest of its personnel gaps.

The Tigers remain heavily in the mix for top-100 Louisiana native Josh LeBlanc, and have begun to gain even greater traction with top-100 Florida natives Emmitt Williams and Darius Days.
