Five-star center Jeremiah Tilmon asks for release from Illinois

It seems as if the recruitment of five-star senior center Jeremiah Tilmon is destined to be filled with drama.

In the Fall, the 6-foot-10 post from East St. Louis (Ill.) High announced near signing day that while committed to Illinois he wouldn't sign. Then just a few days later he ended up signing a National Letter or Intent with the Illini.

Now, with the firing of John Groce and the hiring of Brad Underwood, Tilmon has decided to ask for a release shortly after he appeared to have re-affirmed his commitment to the Illini.

Tilmon -- who said he will still consider Illinois -- posted his decision to ask for a release on Instagram.

"My family and I feel it's only fair that we hear all opportunities and not be stuck in one situation," Tilmon posted as part of his message.

Now, the question is whether or not Illinois decides to play hardball with his NLOI. Given how he's been somewhat wishy washy throughout his entire recruitment, you couldn't blame them. But at the same time, it is becoming clear that Tilmon is looking to roam so it may be time to go ahead and cut him loose for good.

Should Tilmon receive his release, there will be no shortage of suitors. Kansas and Saint Louis were heavily rumored to be potential destinations when Tilmon waffled in the spring. This time around, though, look out for Missouri if and when Tilmon gets his release.

New head coach Cuonzo Martin is a native of East Saint Louis and has deep ties in the community that could be very helpful in landing Tilmon.
