Five-star Baker picks up UNC offer, remains open in process

Will Baker shot up the rankings this summer with his play on the Adidas circuit with Basketball University. He’s now a five-star prospect in the 2019 class and the No. 15 overall prospect as a 6-foot-10, 220-pound center.

Last week, his recruitment stepped up another notch as he scored an offer from the reigning national champions North Carolina. UCLA, Stanford, Texas A&M, Virginia, Baylor and Texas are some of the other schools involved in his recruitment.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Baker talked on some of the schools involved with him already.

Baylor: “It’s a great college town. I actually liked it more than I expected. I liked Coach [Scott] Drew a lot. He’s a great guy and super enthusiastic about what he does. The whole coaching staff is that way.”

North Carolina: “It’s awesome to get an offer. I honestly don’t know a whole lot about their program, but I’m definitely going to learn a lot more. I’m pretty interested in them.”

Texas A&M: “I really like Coach [Billy] Kennedy and Coach Amir [Abdur-Rahim]. They are great guys as well.”

UCLA: “Coach [Steve] Alford and Coach [Duane] Broussard came down yesterday and we talked for a good time after school. It was good getting to know them. I really like the school and the opportunity it provides. I’m interested in film and they are one of the top schools in that.”

Stanford: “I’m a strong student, so that is something that appeals to them. It’s a school that offers a lot after you’re done if you get a degree from there.”

WHAT'S NEXT?

Baker plans to be in College Station on Saturday to see Texas A&M take on Alabama at Kyle Field. No other visits are set right now, but could happen throughout the year. When asked what his timeline is for making a decision, Baker made it clear he’ll decide whenever he finds a school he’s completely sold on. It could be next week or it could be next year. He’s completely open to all schools right now and doing his research on the schools as they come into the picture.
