Five standing out for three-star forward Race Thompson

CERRITOS, Calif. – Race Thompson has had a breakthrough spring on the adidas circuit with the D1 Minnesota 17-under unit. Tough, active, athletic and skilled, the 6-foot-8 power forward has seen some of the top local programs chase after him.

Capable of producing near the basket, on the perimeter and out in the open floor, Thompson’s stock has continued to improve as a few schools have begun to stand out.

“Minnesota, Indiana, Iowa State, Baylor, and Marquette,” he said. “Those are the main ones off the top of my head that have stood out.”

Thompson broke down those involved.

Minnesota: “Their style would definitely fit me, but we are going to see how it goes.

“I like them a lot, it is the hometown team, of course. It is just like any other school though, I just want to make the best decision.”

Iowa State: “It is a good school. It definitely fits my style of play with getting the ball and being able to push it. That definitely stands out about that school.”

Baylor: “It is nice; they definitely have good coaches that develop its players. They have a couple of guys going to the draft this year. They always have a big team, so that would definitely benefit me, being able to play a smaller position at the 3 or the 4 and make my chances greater of playing pro basketball.”

Indiana: “They definitely have told me that they want me a lot. They have made me a priority. They have one of the best cultures in college basketball, some of the best fans; it is definitely a good school.”

WHAT'S NEXT?

Finishing out his summer with the D1 Minnesota 17-under team, Thompson has a few trips in mind.

“I am visiting Indiana and Michigan sometime at the end of June,” he said before noting on the timetable for a more cut list. “I will probably narrow it down a little after the AAU season.”

RIVALS' REACTION

Minnesota has done a good job of making the local prospects feel like they are being wanted and Thompson is no different. However, Iowa State sits in a very good spot with the nearby prospect, as do Michigan, Indiana, Marquette and Baylor. Each could have a say when it comes time for a college commitment.
