Five Offers for Huffman

Big men have become a hot commodity in the class of 2005 because the pickings are slim. That is why Jonathan Huffman, a 6-foot-11, 210-pound prospect from Birmingham Central Park (Ala.), has five scholarship offers and a host of high-majors evaluating his progress this summer. He is starting to put the ball in motion in his recruitment, too.
Huffman said he is fielding offers from Georgia, Ole Miss, UAB, Penn State and Virginia Tech. Schools like Louisville, Miami (Fla.), Tennessee and most recently Texas are showing interest, too.

Huffman said he will be attending Louisville’s elite camp next week. He will be amongst a host of others at the event. Huffman said rising freshman Martez Walker from New Orleans will join him at the camp and next year at Central Park. Ole Miss could possibly have him on campus, too, for a team camp. Carl Swanigan, who will prep at Central Park next year with Huffman, is committed to the Rebels.
“I’ll probably have a decision sometime after the AAU season but before the high school season,” Huffman said. “I just want to have a good summer and have options to choose from.”
He is controlling his own options with his play at several events this AAU season. Most recently, Huffman displayed the most attractive thing of his game all weekend at the Challenge in the South tournament in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The ultra-thin big man stepped out on the perimeter and connected on a minimum of two three pointers a game. He has a nice looking shot for a player of his height and isn’t afraid to pull the trigger.
There are obvious concerns with his weight, limiting his production as a rebounder and back to the basket big man. He is a skilled shot blocker but his real strength is his mid range game and deeper. Huffman can put the ball on the floor and attack from the wing, too.
Huffman, the 38-best rated power forward in the country, will compete at the adidas Superstar camp this July in Atlanta.
