Five At Top For Scoring Guard

Tron Smith, a high scoring 6-2, 190 pound shooting/combo guard from Canyon Springs H.S. in Moreno Valley, Calif., is hoping to burst on the national recruiting scene this week at the adidas ABCD Camp in Teaneck, N.J.
Smith watched last summer as his teammate on the Inland traveling squad, Antoine Wright, blew up at both the ABCD Camp and the adidas Big Time Tournament in Las Vegas. Wright had offers from many of the top programs in the country and elected to sign with Texas A&M.

Smith has carved a nice niche for himself on the West Coast, where his spring performances have opened some eyes. In particular, he credited some big recent offensive showings against players like Trevor Ariza and Omar Wilkes.
Arizona State and Boston College have emerged as the early leaders for Smith's services, although he also is considering Florida State, Oregon and UConn.
More schools could be added to the list in the coming weeks.
"It will probably open up when I get to the ABCD Camp," Smith predicted of his recruitment. "I can play among the best, I just need to be seen."
Of the five programs on his list, three (FSU, B.C. and ASU) have offered scholarships.
"Most of the schools are recruiting me to play the two," Smith said. "But if the point guard gets tired, I can also bring the ball up on offense."
This past season at Canyon Springs, Smith averaged 19 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals per game. And he's not lacking in the confidence department.
"I can shoot the ball really well," he said. "I can get to the rack when my jumper is off, and I can defend anybody."
In the classroom, Smith said he carries a 2.7 GPA and narrowly missed a qualifying SAT score on his first attempt this spring.
After the ABCD Camp this week, Smith said he will attend the adidas Three Stripes Classic, the adidas Big Time Tournament and the adidas Best of the Summer Tournament with Elvert Perry's Inland club.
We'll keep you posted on his development and recruitment, so stay tuned.
