Fields adds to UABs strong class

UAB's impressive 2009 recruiting class just keeps getting better. Orlando (Fla.) Olympia guard Dexter Fields is headed to the Conference USA program.
The 6-foot-2 combo guard ended his recruitment on Tuesday night, according to his Florida Assault coach Diana Neal.

"Dexter will be going to UAB next fall," Neal said.
"He really enjoyed his visit there and felt like it was time for him to get it done so he can focus on his high school season and his academics. It's his senior year and he wants to do everything he can to be ready for college."
Fields, a three-star prospect, joins DeMarcus Cousins, David Murray, Jon Kreft and Adrian Coleman in the 2009 recruiting class for Mike Davis and the Blazers. The class is currently the seventh best class in the country, according to Rivals.com.
"That was a key. He can come in and play with Demarcus Cousins and Jon Kreft. You can't let that go," Neal said.
Fields also considered LSU, Alabama, Central Florida, Western Kentucky and Georgia Southern, Neal said. Fields had an aggressive visit schedule this fall.
"He had LSU this weekend and Alabama the week after that but he always like UAB and he knew had to live with his decision for four years so he had to go somewhere that he really liked," Neal said.
The strong-bodied combo guard gives UAB a physical scoring that does his best work barreling through the lane and scoring at the rim.
