Ferguson Wont Attend Nova; Reopens Recruitment

Eric Ferguson, a solid 6-1, 185 pound point guard from Hempstead, N.Y., will not be attending Villanova this year.

"Currently, Eric has not gotten his test score yet," said Ferguson's former summer coach, Gary Charles of the Long Island Panthers. "Villanova does not take partial qualifiers, and that's what Eric is right now. So he decided to open things back up."
Ferguson, who spent last year at Milford Academy in Connecticut, had committed to Jay Wright's Big East program last spring.
However, Ferguson was a partial qualifier after finishing up at Milford last spring. As Charles explained, Villanova cannot admit partial qualifiers, so Ferguson was in a bit of a quandary.
He wanted to attend Villanova and play for Jay Wright, a coach he had gotten to know quite well while he manned the sidelines at Hofstra. Hofstra is located in Hempstead, where Ferguson attended high school before heading off to Milford last fall.
Ferguson nearly enrolled at the St. Thomas More School in Connecticut for another prep school year this fall, but has instead decided to stay at home and keep taking the ACT exam.
"He will be taking the test and hopefully everything works out," Charles said. "Whether he does or not, I know that there are schools out there who would definitely take Eric as a partial."
As a result, Charles said that Ferguson is not interested in going the junior college route, regardless of his test score results.
Of course, should Ferguson get the score, he could enroll at a Division I program and sit out come January.
But it's most important for D-I coaches to realize that Ferguson is now open and very recruitable.
Rivalshoops.com will certainly keep you posted on his recruitment and academic status in the coming weeks, so stay tuned....
