ETSU lands Georgia banger

J.C. Ward, one of the top enforcers in Georgia, will bring his power and force to Atlantic Sun. The 6-foot-6, 200-pound power forward from Marietta (Ga.) High School gave a verbal commitment to East Tennessee State University on Tuesday.
Ward visited ETSU last weekend and felt good about the situation in Johnson City and decided not to prolong his recruitment any further.

"I sat down and talked it over with my parents and feel really good about the education I can receive there and the basketball was the best situation for me," Ward said. "They can develop me into the player that I know I can become."
Ward selected the Bucs over interest from Western Carolina and Charleston Southern. The Atlantic Sun power is getting a blue-collar forward that has a knack for getting rebounds out of his area and setting the tone inside. Ward said that was the tone of his talk with his future head coach Murry Bartow.
"I had a chance to sit down with him one on one and he told me that I can be a four/three kind of player for them. He said they don't like to confine their big men to just playing inside," Ward said.
"I wasn't sure about them before I went up there but after talking to coach Bartow and (assistant coach Scott) Wagers and I felt like it was a good place for me. They'll make me a better player and a person. The players seem like good guys and I can see myself playing with them."
