Eric Wilkins Recovering

Oak Hill Academy head coach Steve Smith told us that Eric Wilkins, a 6-3, 185 pound combination guard who had committed to Miami of Florida last October, is still recovering from a sprained ankle. "He came back to play with it in Texas," Smith said. "But it has bothered him. I had to sit him out for a while and Chadd Moore had to play more."
This was a tough break for Wilkins but a good one for Moore, who has sparkled since having the opportunity to play more minutes. "Eric is a big part of our team," Smith said. "He is a much more confident player in his offensive game. One he feels better, he will be able to help us out even more."

Wilkins has to be happy about the Miami of Florida success this season. The Hurricanes football team won a National Championship and the basketball team has yet to lose a game this season. "Miami has done a great job in getting players into their program," Smith said. "Eric is one who will also help them out in the future. Eric can score from anywhere on the floor."
Wilkins will spend his freshman year at Miami when his brother, Ed, will be a senior. Ed is an offensive tackle on the Miami football team. Wilkins had also considered San Diego State and Boston College when he made his decision. At one time in his early part of his process, Seton Hall and Rutgers had also been involved.
Wilkins has improved his game quite a bit over the past two years. Instead of being just a slashing athlete, he now has the ability to play the point guard position, and is also an accomplished shooter out to midrange. His three point shot is also improving, as Smith has pointed out.
