Alabama lands PG of future
During the month of July, high school
players across the country were auditioning in front of college coaches for
scholarships. At the same time, Rivals.com saw a bunch of players who deserve
more serious consideration for the 2014 Rivals150 when it gets a post-summer update.
Wisconsin combo guard Riley LaChance plus a group of ten are among those that stand out.
Lamonte Bearden, PG, Germantown (Wisc.) High: The
search for point guards that can play high major basketball is on and Bearden is
going to get every chance to play at that level. Playing for the Wisconsin
Swing, Bearden showed high end quickness, some scoring ability and he's been
steadily improving. He's a little wild at times and needs strength, but for the
most part he is coming on strong.
Robert Cartwright, PG, La Canada (Calif.) Flintridge:
It wasn't stubbornness that was keeping this tough as nails three-star point
guard out of
the Rivals150, we just needed to see a little more. After watching him again in
July, Cartwright looks to be a clear high-major point guard with good size,
leadership and some scoring pop. He's a pretty safe bet to make the next list.
Gary Clark, PF, Clayton (N.C.) High: A 6-foot-7
forward who is listed by some as a small forward, we prefer Clark as a slightly
undersized but highly active four man. The fact is that he's amongst the best
rebounders in his class and he was very productive and efficient for the CP3
All-Stars. He's been knocking on the door for a while and could finally be
making his way into the rankings.
Matthew Fisher-Davis, SG, Charlotte (N.C.)
Christian: A long shooting guard with 6-foot-5 size, Fisher-Davis is
the owner of one of the sweetest looking shooting strokes in 2014. He can put it
on the floor a little and has a frame that will fill out. In just a few weeks
the three-star has gone from unknown to having offers from places like
Vanderbilt, Virginia and many more.
Troy Holston, SG, Oldsmar (Fla.) Christian: Playing
with North Florida Elite, Holston established himself as a dangerous jump
shooter who has some game off the dribble. He has the bounce to finish around
the rim and will now consider a final six of Alabama,
Michael Humphrey, PF/C, Phoenix (Ariz.) Sunnyslope:
The rise of Humphrey has been one of the most mercurial of the summer. An
athletic and lengthy 6-foot-10 big man who is a quarterback on the football
field, Humphrey saw his recruitment take off after a strong performance at the
Breakout Challenge. Humphrey still needs to fill out but his game has advanced
rapidly and he is highly skilled as a scorer. The likes of Indiana,
UCLA and many others have jumped in with offers.
LaDamean Keys, PF, Bogalusa (La.) High: A former member of the Rivals150, the 6-foot-8 power forward just may be working his way back in. At the Super 64, Keys used the Rancho High School rims to hold his own personal chin-up party as he threw down one dunk after another. He is very lean, but he gets off the floor as quick as any player in the class and can really run the floor. He's raw, but the upside is clear and it's good to see him showing the signs that initially put him into the Rivals150.
Riley LaChance, PG/SG, Brookfield (Wisc.) Central: It
is the three-star's shooting prowess from deep that first drew coaches to him.
His penchant for winning, leadership and overall floor game has kept them coming
back for more. Ray Allen Select doesn't exactly have a roster filled with
nationally known prospects but they still handled several more "talented" teams
and LaChance was hugely important to their success.
Dominic Magee, PG, Harvey (La.) Helen Cox: A 6-foot-3
floor general who has big time athletic gifts, Magee isn't just in the
discussion for the Rivals150, he's a lock. More than likely he will enter the
rankings in the four-star range because of his size, ability to break down
defenses and ultimate upside. He's somewhat turnover prone right now but there's
a lot to work with. Travis Ford and Oklahoma State seem to
have put themselves in good position here.
Nate Mason, SG/PG, Snellville (Ga.) Shiloh: A native
of Georgia, Mason is the second member of the CP3 All-Stars to make this list.
Like Gary Clark, he's a bit of a tweener but the kid can ball. Mason impressed
with his toughness, shot making and willingness to try and make a big play. He
seems like one of those kids who will be helping a good mid major knock off a
big conference team in the NCAA's at some point.
Mitchell Solomon, PF, Bixby (Okla.) High: Along with
Humphrey, the 6-foot-9 Solomon is the hottest big man recruit in the country. He
seemed to come out of nowhere for Playing with Purpose during July. Solomon has
good length, a strong frame and he can really shoot the ball from the perimeter.
Solomon is a definite four-star prospect who has racked up high major offers
from places like Tulsa, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Kansas State,
Colorado, Virginia and more.
