Ekey says okay to MVC school

The mid-majors lined the baselines and sidelines in Las Vegas to get a better view of K.C. Pump 'N Run power forward John Ekey. Less than a month later, the 6-foot-7 big man from Independence, Missouri is headed to the Missouri Valley Conference.
Ekey verbally committed to Illinois State on Monday.

"When I went there, it just had that big college feel to it and I liked that about Illinois State," Ekey said. "Coach Tim Jankovich and coach [Anthony] Beane are great guys and they did a great job of recruiting me. I think it's going to be the perfect fit for me."
After considering Wichita State, Missouri State, Creighton, Drake and Santa Clara, Ekey said he liked the vibe he felt when on campus and seeing the Red Birds up close and personal.
"They have top-quality guys in their program and in talking to one of their seniors, they are only getting better," he said. "It made sense for me."
Ekey showed his versatility for K.C. Pump 'N Run, proving himself as a rebounder but also as a guy that can knock down the long ball.
"Coach told me that they are going to use me as a four man that can go low but also flash high and shoot the three. Their style of play matches what I do really well," Ekey said.
