Eight schools standout for Williams

Every team needs a player on the wing with length and the ability to shoot the ball. Four-star 2009 prospect Shawn Williams has a number of schools clamoring for his attention because he fits this mold. Presently the 6-foot-6, 200-pound small forward from Duncanville (Texas) High School has a working school list of eight schools.
Texas, Arkansas, Kansas, North Carolina, Louisville, Kentucky, Memphis and Baylor all make the cut for Williams according to his father and travel team coach Shawn Williams. Coach Williams also noted that all of these eight schools have offered except for North Carolina and Memphis.

Schools that are not on the list are not completely out of the picture, however. Instead of this school list shrinking, the plan is to extend it to ten by the end of this summer.
"By the end of the summer we want to have ten schools on the list," said Coach Williams. "Then we will try to take unofficial visits to all the schools, and then trim it to seven in the spring. By the end of next summer, we'd like to have it to five schools and then use official visits for those five."
All eight schools, except for Memphis have called Williams since coaches were allowed to call 2009 prospects beginning last Friday. Williams has also fielded calls from Tennessee and Missouri (offer).
North Carolina, Kentucky and Louisville appear to be first in line for unofficial visits.
"Shawn talks about North Carolina a lot, which I'm sure a lot of kids do," said Coach Williams. "They wanted him to come down to campus after the NBA Players Camp, but I don't think we are going to be able to get that done since I'm not traveling with him. We plan to visit some time in August.
"He also likes Coach Gillespie a great deal. We have family in Louisville, so we hope to swing through in August and see Louisville and Kentucky as well."
