Duquesne joins schools hurt by 5/8 rule

Duquesne announced today that Jack May (right), a 6-8, 220 pound power forward from Chino Hills, CA, has withdrawn from school because of academic reasons.
May averaged 7.0 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. He was one of three players to see action in all 30 games and led the Dukes in rebounding a team-high 13 times.

Head coach Danny Nee said, "Jack had the opportunity to rectify his academic situation during the summer session, but didn’t do it. Jack realizes his standing and plans to enroll at a junior college. We wish him the best of luck."
That leaves the Dukes with six scholarships available for next season. Coach Nee, who has added three recruits to the roster, can only fill two of the three remaining slots because of the NCAA's "5/8" rule.
The Dukes will have three seniors on this year's roster. So with nine scholarships available over the next two years they will also be at least one player short during the 2002-03 season.
