All summer long, the word was that if Duke chose to offer four-star shooting guard Alex O'Connell that they would be tough to beat.

That proved true on Friday when the 6-foot-6 shooting guard from Milton (Ga.) High committed to the Blue Devils just two days after receiving a scholarship offer.

"There was one school that stood out to me and felt like the most like home to me," wrote O'Connell on his Twitter account. "I am excited to announce that I will be continuing my athletic and academic career at Duke University!"

Currently ranked No. 69 in the class of 2017, O'Connell is coming off a huge summer and has positioned himself to make a move into the national top 50. He shoots with deep range, is quite athletic and create for himself off the dribble. O'Connell simply needs to add strength.

O'Connell -- whose father played for the Blue Devils during the 1970's -- is Duke's first pickup from the class of 2017.
