Duke Climbs Behind UNC For Smith

Earl "J.R." Smith, a powerful and athletic recruit from St. Benedict's High School in New Jersey, told us that Duke has climbed behind North Carolina in his recruiting race. "North Carolina is definitely leading," Smith said. "Duke has contacted my coach and they might be coming up this week."
Smith said Maryland is third while Florida is now in fourth place. "Florida came in last Thursday," Smith said. "Seton Hall, Rutgers, Villanova, Maryland and Connecticut have already come in."

Smith said Duke intrigues him. But he still said UNC was the school to beat. "It's been a childhood dream to play for North Carolina," Smith said. "They have a great tradition. Michael Jordan. Vince Carter."
Smith said he plans on making a decision before next summer. "No later than the ABCD camp," Smith said. "I will try to take some unofficial visits before I make my decision."
RivalsHoops.com spoke to Smith while he was competing for the Playaz at the Five Star event held this past weekend on the campus of Drexel.
Smith, a 6-5, 220 pound swingman originally from Lakewood H.S. in Lakewood, N.J., previously stated that Maryland and North Carolina were his two favorite colleges. But since Duke has showed some interest, the Blue Devils are right there with the Terps.
