DSR makes it official

Saturday night D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera made the expected official with his commitment announcement.
A one time Xavier commitment, Smith-Rivera publicly pledged to Georgetown at a press conference in his hometown of Indianapolis, Ind.

Smith-Rivera, who is now attending Mouth of Wilson (Va.) Oak Hill Academy, was also considering North Carolina State, Louisville, Memphis and UCLA.
He canceled up coming visits, however, to Louisville and Memphis.
North Carolina State was considered the strongest contender as he had visited North Carolina State recently with new high school teammate and North Carolina State commitment Tyler Lewis. But the Wolfpack secured a commitment from top ten prospect and scoring guard Rodney Purvis, so a Smith-Rivera commitment became much less likely.
Smith, the No. 22-ranked prospect in the Rivals150, cited his relationship with head coach John Thompson, III, and the opportunity for him to make an early impact as pivotal to his choosing Georgetown.
Smith-Rivera is a physical combo guard known for his ability to make jump shots and penetrate into the heart of the defense. He joins post player Brandon Bolden in the 2012 Georgetown recruiting class.
