Drinnon breaks down recruitment

In a nationally televised matchup against Wheeler, Rivals150 point guard Drue Drinnon stole the show for Pebblebrook with five-star guard Collin Sexton out of the lineup with a concussion. Drinnon finished with 20 points and eight assists in the matchup against four-star point guard and Louisville signee Darius Perry, but most importantly he hit the game-winning three-point in overtime with five seconds left and his team down 80-78.

Drinnon had schools from all over the country on him at different times in the recruiting process. Lately, he said Georgia, Wake Forest, Ole Miss and Georgia Tech have put in the most work with him He recently showed up on Georgia’s campus for an unofficial visit.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Drinnon broke down the schools hitting him the hardest right now.

Georgia: “I visited Georgia when they played South Carolina. I like the way they play and how they let J.J. Frazier play. They have been recruiting me since the eighth grade.”

Georgia Tech: “They’ve been doing better than I thought they would do, like way better. I like the way they let Josh Okogie play and Justin Moore. Coach [Josh] Pastner recruited me at Memphis. I like him a lot.”

Ole Miss: “I haven’t watched them this year at all. I talk to them quite a bit, though. They’ve told me they need guards and they want me to come see their new arena.”

Wake Forest: “I have a good relationship with Coach [Danny] Manning and his staff. I haven’t really seen them play, but I enjoy talking to their coaches.”

WHAT'S NEXT?

It’s region tournament time in Georgia with the state tournament starting next week, so that will dominate Drinnon’s focus for the immediate future. Drinnon and his Pebblebrook squad will likely have to go through Wheeler and Westlake, two programs featuring multiple high-major players, in order to win their region, and could see those two programs again in the state tournament.

After the high school season Drinnon will likely run with Team Thad again during the travel season. Look for him to take visits as well, and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see him make a relatively early commitment.

RIVALS REACTION

Right now, Georgia appears to be the team to beat in his recruitment. Mark Fox and his staff have been recruiting him the longest and have been the most consistent. He’s been a regular on Georgia’s campus the past few years. Georgia Tech could get into this one and make it interesting if they prioritize him.
