Drexel picks up two recruits

Drexel's first year head coach Bruiser Flint (right) has picked up two recruits, one for this season, according to both Philadelphia newspapers today.
Kenell Sanchez, a 6-5, 215 pound rising senior swingman at Bishop Eustace Prep in Pennsauken, NJ, has orally committed to Drexel for the 2002-03 season.

Added to this year's roster is 6-9, 230 pound center Anthony Lawlor from DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx, NY. Lawlor had originally committed to George Washington but decided to look elsewhere after head coach Tom Penders' surprise resignation.
Flint replaced Steve Seymour, a long-time Drexel assistant, who was let go after two seasons (28-29) because the school decided to "...upgrade our program with an eye toward successfully competing in the Colonial Athletic Association..." Flint, a Philadelphia native, had coached at Massachusetts for five seasons (86-72) before agreeing to resign at the end of last season. Flint played college ball at St. Joseph's. Continuing the Philly connection in this story, ex-Villanova coach Steve Lappas replaced Flint at UMass.
Lawlor is Drexel's fifth recruit (maximum) for the 2001-02 season. The others are:
6-1, 175 pound guard Phil Goss from Oxon Hill (MD) High School in the Washington, DC, area
6-5, 215 pound swingman Danny Hinds from Allentown (PA) Central Catholic High School
6-2, 175 pound guard Jeremiah King a Passaic, NJ native who attended Philadelphia Christian Academy this season. King originally signed with Massachusetts but asked to be replaced from his NLI after Flint was let go.
6-9, 235 pound center Steve Showers from Northwestern Lehigh (PA) High SchoolFlint has added another player to his roster. Senior swingman Julius Williams has decided to return to the team after sitting out last season. Williams decided not to play as a junior after seeing minimal action during his first two seasons.
New roster information is being released as schools get media material ready for the upcoming season. The CAA schools got a jump start this week when the conference decided to announce its preseason picks for its first year as a 10-team organization. Drexel was picked for ninth place.
