Dozier Eying Visits, New School Enters Picture

There are only 13 players left uncommitted on the Rivals150 and one of those is 6-foot-8, 191 pound senior Robert Dozier of Lithonia (GA) HS. With his season coming to an end soon, he said he would be taking official visits in the near future. The No. 71 ranked player in the country has an idea of where he’ll go and one ACC school is beginning to get into the picture.
Dozier said the University of Georgia would be the first stop on the official visit tour. Several factors are working in the Bulldogs’ favor. Georgia has seen Dozier in action three times this year. The Bulldogs also had the lanky forward on an unofficial visit last month. Dozier also knows injured freshman Corey Gibbs from their days of playing together in the same region in metro Atlanta.

“I think the situation out there is pretty good for me,” Dozier said. “Coach Felton has made that a better program and all of his players are going to graduate.”
With five starters graduating and a plethora of underclassmen on the roster, immediate playing is also a positive for the in-state school.
“I feel real good about that. It’s probably the thing I like the most about them because it gives me an opportunity to start right away,” Dozier said.
Visit number two, Dozier says, will likely be down to Miami, Florida. The Hurricanes have been high on the senior’s list since he re-opened his recruitment.
“I haven’t seen them play too much this year so that is one of the reasons why I want to go down there and visit the school,” Dozier said. “Plus, with them moving into the ACC, it helps a lot.”
Speaking of the ACC, NC State is third on the list of visits. Their style of play is intriguing, Dozier says.
“I just like the way they play. They run a lot of four guard sets and get up and down the floor. That is what we run (at Lithonia) so that is something I’ve thought about with them.”
With a possible scholarship opening up due to the off court problems of signee JamesOn Curry, the University of North Carolina has recently entered the picture. But for now, it has been inquiries only.
“They’ve called my school a couple of times and said they want to come down here and see a game but I think they are waiting to see what happens (with Curry),” Dozier said. “I’ll definitely go if the chance is there but right now I don’t know their situation so I don’t want to say too much about it.”
Finally, Dozier said he may go to UAB but the situation at UNC dictates the status of the Blazers’ visit, whether it is for an official trip or unofficial visit.
Dozier was once committed to Memphis but decided to back out of his verbal pledge. After members of the Tigers coaching staff came to Atlanta to see their player, Dozier said he hasn’t heard from the Conference USA school since.
“I haven’t heard from them at all,” Dozier said. “I guess they don’t want me anymore. I don’t know what’s going on.”
Dozier has had a respectable season for Lithonia, averaging16 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks a game. The Bulldogs will play Brookwood HS featuring Georgia signee Channing Toney this weekend in round two of the state tournament. And that is all that Dozier is thinking about.
“I just want that state championship,” he said. “Nothing else matters to me right now.”
