Douglas-Roberts Looking at Six Schools

As the commitments come by the dozens each week, the number of uncommitted players left on the Rivals top 150 list is shrinking. One of the players still going through the process is Chris Douglas-Roberts, the 6-foot-5, 180-pound guard from Detroit (Mich.) Northwestern High School. Schools are making in-home visits and making in-roads to get the No. 51 ranked in the nation.
Arizona, Memphis and Oklahoma made in-home visits this week, Miami will be in on Thursday night and Georgia Tech will stop by on Monday night. Ohio State will close out the in-homes on Tuesday. That’s a lot of talking. And that’s how Douglas-Roberts likes it.

“I just open to those six or seven schools, that’s it,” he said. “At one time I was completely wide-open. Now I’m bringing them all in and feeling them out and weighing the advantages and disadvantages so I can verbal by November.”
Douglas-Roberts says he hasn’t set up any official visit dates and won’t until after the in-home visits. One of the topics of discussion is how he’ll fit in with each of the programs. He is a versatile player that can play a number of positions, including time at the point guard spot. He’ll take the reigns full time at the one this season at Northwestern.
“I can play the point here and run the offense and I like that,” Douglas-Roberts said. “If I want to score, I can score. Or if I just want to sit back and run the offense, I can do that, too. I like that flexibility.”
The Michigan native said he doesn’t mind playing the point but he’s more concerned with just playing in general at the college level.
“Playing time isn’t the only factor but everyone, including myself, is going to be something that people think about,” Dougals-Roberts said. “I’m trying to get to the next level so playing time is important. I don’t have to start but I want to play and get my fair shot.”
Each of the schools he’s looking at provide different opportunities.
“In college, I have no idea what I’ll play,” he said. “I know Memphis has Darius Washington and Oklahoma has Drew Lavender. I wouldn’t have to be the point man at those schools. Most schools are recruiting me to slash. It doesn’t matter to me. If you are good, you’ll get your minutes. I’m good about not having to play the point in college. In high school, it’s cool but college it doesn’t matter.”
Douglas-Roberts didn’t tip his hand about any of the programs and, for now, he’s still trying to get a grasp of who is really interested. Perhaps when he sets up his official visits, he’ll begin to show his cards a little more.
