Douby Does A Number On Playaz Club

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK -- Just across Xaverian High School is the shoreline that gives Brooklyn a pretty view. But it wasn't so pretty for the Playaz Club. And the big reason was an outstanding performance by Quincy Douby, a 6-3 guard from Grady High School in New York who plays for the Brooklyn USA AAU team.

Douby scored 21 points to lead his team to a hard fought 71-65 victory over the Playaz Club at this Brooklyn USA sponsored event which benefits in part the Amadou Diallo Scholarship Fund. Diallo was killed in a hail of 41 shots by four police officers two years ago.
Douby hit four three-pointers to help his team to the victory. A late run by the Playaz led by Dwayne Lee almost helped Jim Salmon's team pull a stunning come from behind win.
Lee hit three three pointers and a field goal in the second half to bring the Playaz to within two points in the last minute of play. But key free throws by Jerel Blasingame sealed the win for the Brooklyn USA team.
Helping Brooklyn also was rising junior star Chris Taft of Xaverian High School. Taft scored 17 points and had a monster dunk during a Brooklyn USA second half spurt.
For the Playaz, Elijah Ingram scored 14 points and was held in check by a swarming Brooklyn USA defense. Adding 11 points for the losers was Jamal Nutter.
