CHICAGO -- The 2015 McDonald's All-American game festivities came to a conclusion Wednesday as the East and West clashed in a nationally televised contest at the United Center. Before the night was over, five-star big man Cheick Diallo led the East to a convincing 111-91 win with a double-double that earned him the game's MVP honors.
Diallo takes home MVP honors
All week long, the East team played and performed like the more physical and competitive squad. Whether it was practices or scrimmages or Wednesday night's game, Cheick Diallo embodied that style and attitude.
Wednesday night, the 6-foot-9 big man from Centereach (N.Y.) Our Savior was his usual ball of energy as he racked up a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds in just 17 minutes to earn the game's MVP.
The No. 7 ranked player in the class of 2015, Diallo gave those watching at home a pretty good idea of exactly who he is and what he's been about his high school career. Diallo battled for position on the glass, he ran the floor and he even showed off some nifty passing ability while leading the way. He isn't the biggest and he isn't the strongest, but nobody gives a more consistent effort and he deserved to be rewarded with the game MVP for his play.
While Diallo is still undecided and mulling over options like Kansas, Kentucky, Iowa State, Pittsburgh and St. John's, he simply wanted to savor the McDonald's experience on Wednesday night.
"A lot of people came to watch me so I'm so excited," said a grinning Diallo. "That's my first time playing in front of a crowd like that, I'm just so excited. I don't really know what to say."
