Dews to the ACC

With his stock on the rise and after a couple official visits, James Dews of Lakota East in Westchester, Ohio, found the perfect college fit. Dews, a 6-foot-2, 182 pound shooting guard and one of the better shooters in the class of 2006, will play ball in the ACC.
"I feel great," said Dews, the No. 69 ranked player in the class of 2006. "Miami is just a great place for me in every way. The coaching staff is great. I have a great opportunity to play with the graduation of Rob Hite. And Miami plays in a great conference in the ACC."

Dews, who officially visited Miami last weekend, also took an official visit to Seton Hall. He was also considering West Virginia, Dayton, Xavier, Tennessee, Penn State and Michigan. All but Michigan had offered.
Coming off a junior season where he averaged 20 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists per game for his 18-3 team, Dews has had a strong spring showing on the AAU circuit. Later this month, he will participate in the NBA Players Camp and at the Nike All American Camp in early July.
Dews is a great addition for Miami as a scorer to play alongside 2005 point guard signee Denis Clemente and 2007 point guard commitment Edwin Rios.
"He's been a great scorer for us since day one," Lakota East head coach Wally Vickers said. "This year we played him at the point and he did really well at it. James is really coming along. He can shoot it, of course, from deep or pull up in the mid range. And he's very, very good at that. Now he's taking it to the rim so he's doing a little bit of everything with it.
"James still has a lot of upside. Physically, he's still going to mature and he may get a little taller. He's going to be a better athlete and he takes pride in being a complete player. I think he'll really embrace that (at Miami)."
James Dews scouting report
Dews is a solid all around player on the wing, who excels at shooting/scoring the ball. Is getting more of a penetration game as he gets stronger. Should be a good defender once he fully develops his strength.
