Deron Williams Talks About His Decision

It came as no great surprise that Deron Williams, a 6-3 and 195-pound point guard from The Colony High School in Texas, committed to Illinois today. After all, Williams indicated that Illinois was the school to beat. "I have had Illinois as my top school for a while," Williams said. "I was just trying to explore all my options for making a decision."
Williams had his Georgia Tech visit cancelled this weekend. "Tech got Jarrett Jack," Williams said. "So the trip was off. So I felt this was the right time to make my decision."

Illinois fans will be very happy with Deron Williams. Williams is one of the better floor generals available in the class of 2002. Williams is a tremendous leader with very little extraneous matter to his game. He handles the ball with robot like precision, finds open teammates around the basket and oh yes, he can score a little bit too when his team needs him to pitch in offensively.
Add it all up and you have without a doubt the top PURE point guard in the Class of 2002.
"I am going to work hard on my jumper this season," Williams said. "I also want to make my feet quicker on defense. I want to improve my defense on smaller point guards."
These are two aspects of Williams game, if improved, will make him a great college player. "I like the program at Illinois," Williams said. "They have a great class coming in with me. It's going to be alot of fun there."
Williams is especially tough in late game circumstances. IR personally witnessed Williams lead Fort Worth to several come from behind victories at the Great American Shootout. He is essentially an extension of the coach on the basketball floor.
Williams told us that Georgetown, Louisville, and Boston College expressed late interest. "But I have liked Illinois for a long time," Williams said. "It was too late in the process. I am glad I have made this decision."
