Dayton gets McKinley Wright, Marquette Theo John

Three-star high school teammates McKinley Wright and Theo John have had a nice run together at Champlin Park (Minn.) High. Tuesday night, they announced that they'll be headed their separate ways for college.

During a joint press conference held at their high school, Wright, a six-foot- point guard, announced that he'll be headed to Dayton while John, a 6-foot-8 center, announced that he will attend Marquette.

A ball control point guard who can get into the lane and score or create, Wright was a major priority for Dayton. They lose senior Scoochie Smith after this season and he's the type of guy who can step in and help to ease the loss of such an important ball handler and decision maker.

"It's a perfect spot for me," said Wright. "I have a great relationship with coach Archie Miller and coach Tom Ostrom.

"It's a situation where I can go in and play early."

Wright is the third three-star prospect from the class of 2017 to pick the Flyers joining high scoring guard Jordan Davis and intriguing big man Jordan Pierce.

A physically strong and tough big man who does the dirty work, John doesn't play the flashiest of games but he is effective on the glass ans as a physical defender.

Marquette was scheduled to do their in home visit with him on Tuesday night which took away from some of the intrigue but he still had to make things official.

"I'm proud to say that I'll be furthering my academic and basketball career at the University of Marquette," said John.

John joins fellow three-star prospect, and Midwestern big man, Ikechukwu Eke in Marquette's 2017 recruiting class.
