Day Almost Done

The fall means less sunlight in the evening hours. That’s why Dwayne Day is getting in as many outdoor pickup games he can at his home in Mount Vernon, GA. The fall also means its time for recruits to make their pledges to their future schools. We caught up with the 6-foot-5, 185 pound shooting guard – in the middle of a game of one on one with his brother – and talked about his recruitment. This Day is almost through.
The Montgomery Co. HS star took three official visits in September. He took his first trip to the University of Florida and enjoyed the SEC school. The next weekend he visited Ole Miss but his third visit was the charm. Day took in the sights at South Carolina and saw enough to figure out what school was tops on his list.

“South Carolina is the favorite right now,” Day said. “So far, they are on the top of the list. I think I’ll know (where I want to go) some time next week. I just need to stick on the idea of what school wants me the most. South Carolina is still calling, so that tells me something.”
All three SEC schools made their in-home pitches last month. Day said he enjoyed Dave Odom and his staff both times. Day also spoke highly of the current Gamecocks.
“I feel at home there. I get along with the coaches and all of the players. They’re all great guys. Plus I look at the situation of who is in my spot. South Carolina has a bunch of juniors and seniors at my position. The bigger schools have a lot of freshmen so it’s a matter of coming in right away and playing.”
Day said he’s been working hard on his skills, refining the little things before his senior season gets started. But he was quick say that his practice in the books is his first priority.
“I’ve been busy in the classroom, trying to get my GPA up,” Day said. “I have all A’s so I’m doing pretty good.”
On the court, Day is a crafty shooting guard with nice handles and a solid shot from the perimeter. He creates well for himself, allowing for a nice step back jumper. He’ll need to add weight (which he admits) in order to become a solid scorer at the college level.
Day spent the summer on the ultra-talented Atlanta Celtics squad, playing alongside RivalsHoops.com’s top player Dwight Howard and fellow top 25 players Josh Smith and Randolph Morris. Day is currently ranked 141 on the Rivals150.
