It didn’t take long for Johnny Dawkins to secure his first commitment in the 2017 class as the head coach at UCF. On Tuesday afternoon, Rivals150 guard Daniel Lewis decided to commit to the Knights while on an unofficial visit.

Lewis, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard who just helped Westlake High School win a state championship in Georgia’s highest classification, confirmed the news to Rivals.com.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

“Coach Johnny Dawkins is a great coach and a former pro, so I really want to play for him. I already had a great relationship with the assistant coach, Jamill Jones, when he was at VCU last year, and the campus is beautiful.”

RIVALS' REACTION

Lewis picked up several high-major offers early in the recruiting process and his stock only picked up after helping the Georgia Stars 16U team win the Peach Jam last summer.

Currently at No. 137 in the 2017 Rivals150, Lewis is one of the better pure scorers in the southeast. He possesses a quick trigger on his jump shot and can score in a hurry when he gets into a rhythm. He’s not the most vertical prospect, but he’s got a quick first step and is a crafty finisher at the rim. If he can become a more consistent player, he could be instrumental in helping Johnny Dawkins take UCF to the top of the AAC.
